Between mid-June and late July, the Konclave screening stack flagged three mid-cap names as likely to raise full-year guidance. All three did. This piece walks through what the flags consisted of, because the composition matters more than the hit rate.
What a flag actually is
A flag is not a prediction. It is a stack of small, dated observations that individually mean little: a job-posting mix shift toward a specific product line, a supplier’s lead-time commentary changing tense, a distributor price list quietly republished. The agent’s job is to notice that three weak signals point at the same line item in the same quarter.
The three cases
Helvar Industrial (HVLX). Postings for application engineers in one segment rose 40% over six weeks while the rest of the hiring plan was flat. The segment was 12% of revenue, small enough that no sell-side model broke it out. Guidance raised at the August print.
Marlowe Diagnostics (MRWX). Reorder velocity at two large lab distributors inflected four weeks before management’s commentary changed. The flag fired on the second distributor, not the first. One distributor is noise. Two is a pattern.
Caspian Freight Systems (CFSX). Contract language in new customer tenders shifted from spot-linked to fixed with fuel caps. That is a management team expressing confidence in volume. The screen caught the language change in public tender documents.
The honest caveat
Three for three is a good month, not a law. Over the same window the stack flagged eleven names. Five raised, four were in line, two cut. The value is not clairvoyance. It is that a human analyst spent eleven hours on eleven names instead of four hundred.
